Country FarmHouse Dishcloths

While out picking up supplies and running errands, my wonderful husband commented that we need some new dishcloths. Apparently ours were getting a little thin ... trying to be thrifty and really not wanting to spend money on something that wasn't going to last, I insisted on picking up a few skeins of yarn instead.

Later that afternoon as we were sitting in the living room relaxing, instead of taking out a Christmas gift that I was crocheting, I decided to make a new dishcloth. I did a fairly easy pattern using hdc (half double-crochet) with a sc (single crochet) edging. They turned out beautiful as you can see by the photo.

While doing the dishes later that evening, I was surprised at how wonderful they worked - handmade dishcloths are thicker but actually easier to use. I asked hubby to come into the kitchen and of course, placing the dishcloth in his hand, told him to give it a try.

The Good News is that he wanted to finish the dishes for me - What a Sweetie!! I said, "No, I don't think so", but honestly it was nice to know that he really appreciated the wonderful gift that I had chosen to make for our home. Since then, I have made many more and even given a few as gifts.

If you can crochet, pick up a few skeins of yarn, and make a few - you won't be disappointed. My personal preference is Lily Sugar 'n Cream Stripes yarn as they seem to be thick but not too thick, making them the easiest ones to wash the dishes, counters, tabletop, etc.

And if you can't crochet or just don't have the time ... look for our Country FarmHouse Dishcloths available in our Prim 'n Purdy Mercantile soon.

  1. I Love homemade dish cloths and make mine all the time, I even started making them seasonally colored, and gave them as gifts last year. Yours are beautiful, I made some using the same yarn! Have a blessed day!
